Best Bars on South Lamar

South Lamar has boomed into one of Austin’s best areas for dining and drinks. With some of the city’s top restaurants and bars, there are a lot of options along this stretch. You can find a little of everything here and there are some unique treasures that you won’t want to miss out on seeing. Scattered from the far south end (that used to be out of town) and leading along the street north to Barton Springs Road, here are the Best Bars on South Lamar.
Broken Spoke
3201 S Lamar Blvd
Keeping Honky Tonk alive and well on South Lamar for 60 years, Broken Spoke is a Texas legend. Countless country music icons have spent time in this dance hall and there are pictures clustered on the walls to prove it. Put your cowboy boots on and grab your favorite dance partner to go step in line. They have nightly live music and delicious food from the restaurant in the front. If you are visiting, this dedicated historic bar is a great way to experience a taste of old Austin. Said to be the “Last of the True Texas Dancehalls”!
Barton Springs Saloon
424 S Lamar Blvd
On the north end of the stretch serving greenbelt goers, motorcycle groups, and folks of all forms is Barton Springs Saloon. This bar is just as weird and wonderful as Austin. Popular for their great location, delicious drinks, and the famous food truck Tommy Want Wingy! Head here after a day out at Zilker or, of course, Barton Springs. Black Sheep Lodge

Long running area favorite is Black Sheep Lodge. Voted by many as the best burgers and bar food you can get on the south side, let us know if you agree! The Highball

Located within the Alamo Drafthouse is a swanky and unconventional cocktail bar, The Highball. They not only have great drinks but a full lineup of fun events like Geeks Who Drink trivia and The Drag Queen Game Show! Bouldin Acres

Pickleball players look no further! This huge bar has everything you could want for an activity filled adventure. They are dog and family friendly so bring the kids and let them romp around the playground (or dog park) while you hit the courts. You’ll find a massive bar, tons of TVs, and other lawn games to enjoy while you wait and watch. Go early for Happy Hour or play pickleball late into the evening.
Gibson Street Bar

From the owners of some of Austin’s best bars around town, South Lamar is home to Gibson Street Bar. They are a holiday highlight with the entire bar and patio seasonally decorated, and they don’t hold back. These owners revamped an old limestone dive bar into a hip local hangout. They have games, great music, and even better drinks. Known in particular for their fantastic frozens, namely the Frozen Moscow Mule. This is a perfect spot to have some week day fun and they have different drink deals every day.

This is an adored Sherlock Holmes themed pub and restaurant with a handful of locations around Texas.
