Kalimotxo has finally reopened after relocating from downtown to the east side. This culinary cocktail bar has brought superior Spanish food and traditional plates to East Sixth Street. Located right across from the well-liked Whisler’s and bringing new life to the space that used to be Vixen’s Wedding. Kalimotxo is brought to us by the trusted Emmer & Rye family, now among Hestia and Canje. They’re serving up terrific tapas and delicious drinks. Spend some time in Spain, without leaving East 6th.

Marvel at the Matador

Crowning the corner of the Arrive Hotel and seducing East Sixth Street with savory and sweet Spanish treats. This space is sexy and comfortable, casual but captivating. Romantic lighting and racy decor make this place perfect for a date, and make it a double! Lounge outside while you wait or for a casual cocktail on the couches. Sit at the beautiful big bar or a comfortable table and listen to the DJ playing vinyl albums. Kalimotxo feels fresh and saucy while maintaining Old Word Spanish influence and flavor.

Find flavorful and filling tapas, spectacular seafood, and tons of traditional tastes from Spain. This is a different dining style with options ranging from single small bites to stunning shareable plates. You’ll go through the phases of the menu and tally up all the desired dishes. Don’t underestimate the individual bites, they’re so filled with flavor they’ll have the table fighting for each bite (worry not, you can always order more!). Our favorite first round was the Uni Torrejas, a savory take on french toast topped with a delightful dollop of sea urchin and fluffy saffron butter. Another must try is their goat cheese stuffed sweet piquillo pepper. You can’t have Spanish tapas without a bowl of patatas bravas, warm potatoes with a mouthwatering garlic aioli drizzled on top. Kalimotxo’s calamari is a stand out on the medium menu, perfectly crunchy and featuring squid ink croquetas. Their Croquetas de Jamon are the absolute stars of the show. These delicious and famous fried balls of spanish ham are a staple of traditional tapas and Kalimotxo has perfected them. Make sure to order a round or two and add the Iberico slices on top for a sample of the sliced cured shoulder ham. Lastly, enjoy their large plate options like grilled whole fish, wagyu ribeye, or the marvelous and massive salt-roasted prawns. No matter what you order, you’ll be presented with a picture and palate perfect plate.

Kalimotxo or calimocho is a traditional Spanish mixed drink that is one part red wine and one part cola. This symbolizes the inspiration behind the restaurant, celebrating the culture and classic world of Spanish dining. Sip on a refreshing red wine mix drink or share a bottle with your group and pour from the porrones. These pitchers have a small spout that pours out in a thin stream, not just for filling a cup but also boldly pouring a long stream right into your mouth!

Kalimotxo is a cheeky collision of casual, contemporary, and conventional. This restaurant gives guests a chance to unwind and unleash, feast with friends, sip, and savor.

Don’t forget you can even order a full Basque cheesecake!

See y’all there.
