The History of Cucina 35 I'm new to this location, but learned that it has a lot of history. Prior to the covid, Cucina was known as Brick Oven Pizzeria. As covid shook up the restaurant industry, ownership changed hands but the staff and their 20 years experience remained the same. So did the cozy décor and most of the menu. The end result is a more intimate restaurant that is free from the franchise requirements with a new energy dedicated to making Cucina 35 unique and personal experience.
The Ambiance at Cucina 35 This is an older home that has been converted into a restaurant. There's a small bar, one large room (by comparison), a small room, and cozy outside patio that hosts 3-6 tables. All in all, there's probably not more than 40 seats in total. The art on the walls features local artists that are changed out from time to time, but nothing over the top. What you see is what you get...a relaxing, easy, homey dining experience that you might find in somebody's house, but with a brick oven installed in the kitchen area.
The Menu at Cucina 35 The menu is brief with around 4 appetizers, 5 salads, 11 entrees, 6 pizzas, some calzones and desserts. Personally I like a smaller menu as it shows focus and makes choosing easier, especially when everything sounds good. My favorites are the pastas, simple yet sumptuous, with solid portions at great prices. My favorite pastas are listed below. I add chicken to each ($3) and they come with a nice Caesar salad or soup. They also deliver the most amazing fresh baked bread from the brick oven with every meal that is worth a trip by itself.
Tuscan Spaghetti (GF) | $12.50
Parmesan cheese, shallots, heavy cream, sun-dried tomatoes, mushroom, and basil
Cacio e Pepe (GF) | $11.50
butter, Parmesan, and black pepper
Basil Pesto Fettuccine (GF) | $12.50
house made pesto cream sauce, mushroom, tomato, garlic, and Parmesan
When it's all said and done we've dined here 4 times enjoying an entrée each with an appetizer and bottle of wine to share. The check is usually around $80 which leaves a rare and pleasant aftertaste for Austin dining.
